A 61-year-old German was charged in a Phnom Penh court on Tuesday (April 10) with having sex with a 13-year-old girl, a crime punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment. Walter Munz, from Stuttgart, was arrested on Sunday (April 8) in a guest house where Keo Thea, deputy head of the capital's human trafficking unit, said he had "shared a bed with a beggar girl" whose school fees he had helped pay. Munz denied the allegations via his lawyer, Theng Meng Y. Prosecutor Sok Roeun said there was enough evidence to detain Munz for up to six months while further investigations were carried out. Sok Roeun told Reuters that Munz was charged with debauchery. Last month, a court sentenced two Germans to 28 and 12 years in jail for sexually abusing girls aged between 13 and 15. TW/AD
