The last bottle of authentically British HP sauce rolled off the production line in Aston Cross, in the West Midlands on 16th March 2007. Heinz, which brought the brand two years ago is shifting production to the Netherlands. The blend of malt vinegar, fruit and spices, was first marketed by a Nottingham grocer in 1903. Though the label features the Houses of Parliament, it is thought the name may come from the initials of its creator, Harry Palmer. Prime Minister Harold Wilson's wife, Mary, claimed he used to smother it over every meal; hence the nickname, Wilson's Gravy.
