BUSINESS: EU new tax rule on internet shopping may mean UK customers avoid paying tax duty on alcohol

Millions of Britons could soon be buying up cheap alcohol and cigarettes in 'armchair booze cruises' if European Union (EU) ministers pass a new tax ruling on internet shopping. The EU will decide if laws that have benefited channel hoppers can be applied to customers who make purchases via the internet or email. The move will alarm the Treasury as Britons face the possibility of paying duty on cigarettes and alcohol into the coffers of an EU member state.
