Melles and Knarek, illegal Romanian immigrants, are incompetent bank robbers who have unwittingly smuggled Knarek's fiancée, Julie, over the border with them. When Knarek is told to choose between Julie and the heist money, and chooses the money, Julie is left stranded in this strange new land. That is until she stumbles upon Paolo and the two strike up an unlikely and passionate friendship based on shared alienation and larceny. With the eccentric and inept detective Gudrawczuk ("The fastest cop in Lower Austria" played by the legendary Horst Bucholz) on the trail of the botched robberies, and Julie's heart set on a new bank, this disparate group of outlawed foreigners are quickly finding out that life in The Western Bloc is not all they dreamed it would be. 'Brighter Than The Moon' is a wonderfully comic look at immigration and the concept of foreignness, whilst also being a highly entertaining heist comedy in its own right.
