Former undisputed lightweight champion Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins and two-time world champion Winky Wright started a brawl during the weigh-in for their light heavyweight championship at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Both fighters weighed in at 170 pounds and proceeded to exchange heated words which turned into a melee involving the two camps.Hopkins stepped down from the scales and began an animated exchange with the Wright camp as Wright stepped in and was pushed in the face by Hopkins.Members of both camps began pushing and shoving each other as the announcer tried to keep spectators off the stage.Hopkins (47-4-1, 32 KOs) holds the Ring Magazine light heavyweight title and spent the overwhelming majority of his career at middleweight. Both fighters are known more for being technically-sound counter punchers than crowd-pleasing brawlers.Southpaw Wright (50-3-1, 25 KOs), who is coming off a disputed draw with reigning middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, is famed for a tight defense and blistering jab.In June last year he stepped up to the light-heavyweight division and scored a dominant victory over defending champion Antonio Tarver. He initially announced his retirement after that bout but has since decided extend his career at the age of 42.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
