Bored prison warder causes £400 damage to food trolly after joyride crash in prison corridor

Prison warder Chris Marr decided to liven up his shift at Saughton jail in Edinburgh by climbing on to the heavy metal cart and riding it down a sloping corridor. But his driving skills let him down and he slammed into a wall beside a doorway, causing an estimated £400 of damage. Chris's stunt was captured by the jail's CCTV system and he was hauled in front of his bosses. The video sh ows Chris sailing down the corridor on the trolley, hitting the wall, then carrying on after looking back to check for damage. A prison source said last night: "Chris was taking the food cart down to the kitchen when he obviously thought it would be amusing to ride on the back. "But he lost control and caused a lot of damage - about £400 worth. "Saughton has so many cameras that it's impossible to get away with anything, and when the damage was reported it was just a case of looking through the tapes. "The bosses were flabbergasted when they realised an officer had done it. "To see Chris riding on the cart as if he was a kid on a scooter was hilarious. But it was even funnier when he thought he'd got away with it and kept going." Chris, who has been at Saughton for at least 10 years, was summoned to see an assistant governor over his escapade. He was put on a charge, and it's understood he was given a warning and fined.
