Best of European Council, BRUSSELS 13-14/03/2008

The European leaders, meeting in Brussels for their traditional two-day spring Summit (on 13-14/03/2008), focussed their discussions on the European economy and on climate change. They reaffirmed their commitment to the objectives of the Lisbon strategy. They also agreed to wrap up negotiations on ambitious targets to cut energy use and fight global warming by the end of the year. Finally, the 27 Member States also formally backed a "light version" of the French-German plan for a Union for the Mediterranean which is to be called "Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean".
