Motor sport fans in Australia are being limited to one carton of beer a day, per spectator. Police overseeing Australia's Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar event are limiting race-goers to 24 cans of full-strength beer. Officers insist the quota is not supposed to encourage people to drink to the maximum limit. New South Wales Police Assistant Commissioner, Alan Clarke said: "We're not suggesting that everyone should consume a carton of beer a day at all. We're just trying to be reasonable." More than 500 police will be on duty to keep the expected 180,000 racing fans in check. 30,000 of those spectators are expected to camp out on the grounds of the Mount Panorama race track during the four-day event. Police were checking all vehicles entering the race grounds for excessive alcohol, prohibited items and illicit drugs. Three men were arrested for allegedly possessing drugs.
