Chapter 48 N: Going some where? J: Yeah, Im going to see Haley. A: Oh..does she know? J: No, Im gonna surprise her. Cya later. [He waved and closed the door behind him. Alyse whipped out her cell phone and dialed Deannas number.] D: Hello? A: Hey, listen, Joe is on his way over. D: Hes what? A: Hes coming to surprise Haley. D: Oh, well shes not here right now. A: Where is she? D: Out..with Riley. [She sounded a little scared as she realized what this would sound like to Joe.] A: Ugh, thats great. What are you gonna tell him? D: Im not sure. But I have some time. He just left, right? A: Right. D: Ok. Ill think of something. Thanks for the warning though. A: What are friends for? Haha good luck. D: Thanks, bye. [Alyse hung up and turned to Nick, who looked totally confused.] A: Did Joe ever call Haley while you were in England? N: Um..once, I think. But she didnt answer, and he didnt leave a message. A: Oh. Ok..(thinking) Hopefully that means he wasnt too attached. N: Um….why? A: Ill explain later. [She slipped her phone back into her purse. Nick watched her and noticed the envelope which she had put in earlier in her haste to come see him.] N: Whats that? A: Oh uh..its from the movie company. N: Really?! What does it say? A: Hah nothing. It says theyre sorry for the long wait but they still havent made a decision. N: Oh. That stinks. A: Yeah, but at least it wasnt a rejection letter. N: Its not going to be a rejection letter. [Alyse sighed and gave him a look that said “I dont want to talk about this.”] N: Fine. Lets play a game. [They got out a deck of cards and started into an intense game of spit. {AN-I pone @ that game!! Haha}] **w/Joe** [It took him almost 45 minutes to get to Haleys apartment, because traffic was starting to get heavy. He finally got up to her apartment and knocked on the door. He was about to knock again when the door swung open and Deanna was revealed.] D: Hi Joe. J: Um..hey Deanna. Is your sister here? D: No, shes not right now. J: Oh, I guess I should have called. D: Its ok. J: Well, will you tell her I stopped by? D: Sure, but could you stay for a little while. I need to tell you something. J: Oh, sure. [She lead him into the living room, and he sat down on the couch. She sat on the armchair across from him.] J: So..whats up? D: Ok..well, while you were in England..you and Haley didnt really talk much. J: Is she mad? D: No, its not that. Actually, she thinks youre going to be mad, so she wasnt going to tell you. But I think you should know….. J: Know what? D: You should know that..Haley has kind of hooked up with her ex. A-again. J: Oh. [He didnt know what else to say. He didnt want to sound too happy, although this made his situation a lot easier. He was trying to figure out exactly what to say when the door opened and Haley walked in with some guy that Joe could only assume was his replacement. Haley was laughing, but when she saw Joe sitting there her expression changed to shock, and maybe a little bit scared. Joe stood up and gave her a hug, which shocked her even more. He tried not to laugh.] J: Hey, Hales. Look, dont worry. Deanna explained everything, & its totally fine. But Id better get going. Thanks Deanna. [He waved as he exited the apartment and closed the door. He pulled out his cell phone and opened a new text.] J: Hey, my plans changed; Im free tonight. You wanna meet up? [Not more than a minute after he sent the text, he received one.] ??: Great!
