Bassey in forced landing

Dame Shirley Bassey's helicopter has been forced to land in a school field due to bad weather. She was flying home after performing at Glastonbury when the pilot decided to land the craft at Collingwood College in Surrey.Although she was heading towards Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa, which is not far from the school, severe weather conditions made the school field the best landing site, said college principal Jerry Oddie. The school gates were locked and the pilot had to contact caretaking staff to come and let Dame Shirley out of the grounds at about 8pm.She reportedly went to the house of a local resident who gave her a cup of tea and use of the facilities.Dame Shirley is thought to have stayed at the nearby hotel overnight following her unscheduled stop.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
