Through the figures, frauds were disclosed. China Report has more. PKG Liu Jiayi, head of the National Audit Office, said more than 550 million U.S. dollars illegally taken from public funds has been recovered or returned last year. A total of 617 people have been punished in connection with the cases. Liu said most of these cases involved officials employing a third party to misappropriate public funds or using fake project contracts, certificates and other documents to cover illegal gains. Liu noted that loopholes in laws and regulations as well as inspecific stipulation concerning punishment gave chances to the frauds.
