ARTS / POLITICS: Iranian Foreign Ministry says knighthood for Salman Rushdie is 'provocative act'

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has said the decision to award a knighthood to Salman Rushdie was a "provocative act". The Iraqi foreign minister also joined the chorus of Muslim voices opposed to the novelist's honour. Speaking at the Foreign Office in London, Hoshyar Zebari said the honour was untimely and would be exploited by people to cause trouble around the world. He said the Iraqi government did not have an official position, but shared the views of many Muslims around the world.
