The Iranian Foreign Ministry has said the decision to award a knighthood to Salman Rushdie was a "provocative act". The Iraqi foreign minister also joined the chorus of Muslim voices opposed to the novelist's honour. He said the Iraqi government did not have an official position, but shared the views of many Muslims around the world.
