ARTS: Literature: Anthony Powell's 'A Dance to the Music of Time'

The novels that make up Anthony Powell's 'A Dance To The Music Of Time' are being turned into a television drama with backing from Channel 4. The adaptation is likely to be accompanied by a reappraisal of Powell's place in British letters. Now 88, he has effectively stopped writing, though his diaries will be published in1995. The last great hurdle is in bringing the novels to television, the screenplay which has so far defeated three would-be adapters.
