NOOR (meaning Light in Urdu) a spectacular dance and music piece fusing acrobatic martial arts with contemporary dance and North Indian classical Kathak dance. Formed in 2001 with the desire to communicate the beauty of North Indian classical Kathak dance and music which is emotional, powerful, passionate and intelligent, while interpreting the contemporary voice of today Anurekha Ghosh and Company has blown away viewers at International festivals and theatres. The production questions the nature of enlightenment, exploring our notion of light from an artistic, scientific, religious and mystical point of view. The result is a seamless masterpiece brought to life by dance, theatre, live music, film and projected images. Anurekha Ghosh as Artistic Director, choreographer and dancer within the work has collaborated with filmmaker and digital artist Terry Braun, Italian composer Alfonso Espoito lighting Designer Ben Pacey, and an international cast of dancers, musicians from Belgium, Japan, Ireland, Italy, India and UK. Anurekha is the recipient of Asian Women Achievement Awards for Arts and Culture 2007, sponsored by BBC Asian Network and Lloyds.
