Anders Aslund, economist: Russia still a place to do business

Mar 18: Despite a murky political situation, foreign companies should not worry too much about doing business in Russia, according to Anders Aslund, economist and former adviser to President Boris Yeltsin. He says foreign investors would be most sensible to avoid any business in which the state has a major role, above all, in the energy and military sectors. He tells Quentin Peel, FT international affairs editor, that he is convinced that a proper democracy will emerge: "Russia is too rich and educated to be as authoritarian as it is today." Anders Aslund is a senior fellow of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and author of Russia’s Capitalist Revolution: Why Market Reform Succeeded and Democracy Failed.
