An amazing unpunished goal line handball: Liam Brownhill (Droylsden) v Blyth Spartans

He (Brownhill) is the man on the post, he dived backwards into the net and punched the ball out. It is a penalty, it is a sending off, it is a goal if it is over the line. It is certainly not a 'play on,' that is for sure. How they have not seen it is beyond belief. It is always hard to play against 10 men because they regroup and make it hard for you, but you fancy your chances against 10." -- Blyth Spartans manager Mick Tait. Quite simply, this is one of the most incredible refereeing decisions you will ever see. The match between Blyth Spartans and Droylsden in the FA Trophy 3rd round on Saturday ended in a 2-2 draw between the two Blue Square Premier clubs. It should undoubtedly have been Blyth Spartans who progressed and it is not hard to have some sympathy for them or their manager Mick Tait. With the score at 2-2, Blyth won a couple of headers at a corner and the ball was heading for the far post. Where Droylsden defender Liam Brownhill (pictured) was marking one of the posts. He produced an incredible flying save to keep the ball out and the crowd and players waited for the inevitable red card and penalty. It never came. Darlington referee Steve Smith and his fellow officials simply missed one of the easiest calls they are ever likely to have in a football match.
