With Greece, Ireland and Portugal already held captive, Italy and Spain are closer to being dragged into the crisis. PKG President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy said on Tuesday that a special summit of the euro zone would not be excluded. He made the remarks after a meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho. Van Rompuy also recognized the high contagion risk, saying that relating measures are urgently needed. Portugal is the third victim of the sovereign debt crisis in Europe. After Greece and Ireland, it has also asked for financial support.
