Alan Duncan demoted from shadow cabinet

The MPs' expenses scandal has cost senior Tory Alan Duncan his job after he was secretly filmed complaining that MPs were now forced to survive "on rations". Mr Duncan was demoted from shadow Commons leader, a shadow Cabinet position, to shadow prisons minister by Tory leader David Cameron. In a statement released by the Tories, Mr Duncan said: "This is a sensible decision. You have to be realistic about how difficult the expenses issue has been. "I don't want to be a brake on that by making a difficult issue more problematic. I am very happy to get stuck into another job." The Conservative leader has faced calls to sack Mr Duncan for several weeks, after the Rutland and Melton MP was secretly filmed at Parliament complaining about reforms to MPs' expenses.
