Saturday's protests were part of a week-long demonstration on and near Wall Street which has been organised against a range of government-related actions that activists say are irresponsible, such as bank bailouts, the mortgage crisis and the US state of Georgia's execution of Troy Davis. The New York police took precautionary measures with metal barricades and swarms of police officers in front of the New York Stock Exchange, and the closest protesters could get to was Liberty Street, about three blocks away. A video on posted on Youtubeappears to show officers using mace on protesters who already were cordoned off by police. Another shows officers handcuffing a man after pulling him up off the ground, blood trickling down his face. Police say the arrests were mostly for blocking traffic. Charges include disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. But one demonstrator was charged with assaulting a police officer, who police say suffered a shoulder injury. Organisers of the protests have united under the banner 'Occupy Wall Street', and have taken over Manhatten's Zucatti Park, not far from Wall Street, for 8 ...
