African Refugees in Australia 2 of 4

This is the story of a Sudanese family who successfully immigrated to Australia in 2004after fleeing to Kenya as refugees. This 4 part program tells of the first two years of their resettlement in a farming community in the village of Dorrigo. Not very long ago, the whole world loved Australians. Me too. But it is a very different world opinion of them now. We have come to know "Aussies" much better and we see their shameful racism to the indigenous Aboriginal people there, and now also to us Africans who apparently are not acceptable to live there any more. So, in recent times I have had much to say that is negative of Australia and its racist governments and people. These are some of my reasons ..... INDISPUTABLE FACT: ● In October 2007 the President of Australia proudly announced to his country that he was immediately stopping all future immigration of black Africans. No more refugees. No more families or business people or students from Africa. Black Africans do not belong there. ● In November 2007 the Australian government cancelled all existing approved black African immigration that had not yet travelled. So even though you had already been approved to live there as a student or refugee, you were now cancelled. ● At each previous election for 12 years, the President of Australia had used racism to appeal to the Australian people for re-election, and that this tactic had worked each time with the President rewarded by retaining power. It nearly worked in the last election as well. Australians were well pleased by his racist policies and received them well...but they voted him out on other grounds, such as betrayal of citizens on employment policy and his age. ● The new President of Australia speaks Chinese and has a Chinese family background. He is not racist, and is open to all cultures and people of the world. But he has not reversed this racist decision in the 6 months that he has been in power, because Australians will not accept us Africans as a part of their communities. COUNTERPOINT: ● Australians are very generous to Africans with financial donations and offers of assistance within Africa. We are apparently worth the cost of aid if we stay in Africa, but they do not want us to live with them. ● The new President has "apologized" publicly to the black Aboriginal people of Australia for the past crimes and injustices of the white people. RACISM IN AUSTRALIA ● Australia was "discovered" by the British colonialists who quickly established control of the land and began to exterminate the indigenous Aboriginal nations that inhabited Australia. ● Australia had an actual official policy called "THE WHITE AUSTRALIA POLICY" which was reluctantly given up in the 1970's. The white Australia policy allowed for Aboriginal families to be forcibly separated from their babies and children with no further contact allowed. The same policy allowed for white European immigration only. African and Asian immigration was not allowed, and the few who did go as illegal refugees were treated badly. ● The black Aboriginal population are STILL treated as animals even to this day. Last year a law was passed requiring that all Aboriginals must submit to medical checks, curfews, and income management. These same conditions do not exist for white Australians, or in fact anywhere else in the world. Last month a group were ordered to leave a public place because others were afraid of them.
