Afghanistan's information minister was wounded on Thursday (May 17) when a suicide bomber targeted a car in which he was travelling in the southern city of Kandahar, the governor of the southern province, Assadullah Khalid, said. Karim Khurram suffered facial injuries when the bomber rammed a car full of explosives into a vehicle carrying the minister. He is being treated at a hospital. Three civilians were killed in the attack, which hit Khalid's vehicle in Kandahar city. Khalid, who was not in the vehicle at the time, escaped unhurt and appeared before reporters following the attack. "Around 7 o'clock this evening there was a suicide attack in my vehicle and I was not in the car myself but our minister of information and culture was a little bit wounded and also my driver and a couple of security guards. But they are ok, they are alright, they are just a little bit wounded," Khalid said. Security forces cordoned off the site of the attack. Khalid did not say who was the target of the attack, part of the latest violence by suspected Taliban militants in recent months following the traditional winter lull.
