Afghan camels at the desert's mercy - 18 June 07

In twenty years the amount of desert in southern Afghanistan has doubled as a result of man-made activity, forcing Afghan camels to walk for miles across the arid landscape to find water. The slow destruction of Afghanistan's environment has been blamed on rapid deforestation for firewood and timber exports.
