Abortion legalised in Mexico City
The vote divided Mexico, which is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic. The new abortion law, allowing women to abort in the first three months of pregnancy, only applies to Mexico City. The ban will remain in force in the rest of the country and anti-abortion campaigners are likely to challenge the capital's abortion law in the Supreme Court.
