Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met U.S. Assistant Secretary of State David Welch on Sunday (December 24), a day after holding his first formal meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Earlier on Sunday, Olmert's cabinet unanimously approved the transfer of 100 million U.S. dollars in Palestinian tax revenues to President Mahmoud Abbas's office as agreed during Saturday's (December 23) meeting between the two leaders. Officials said the transfer may not take place for days or weeks, until Israel receives details of what humanitarian needs Abbas intends to use the funds for.
