On September 18, 2009, Columbian immigrant & artist Carlos Martinez set up his pop-up photo booth beside the one day only "Stone Soup Park." Every year, peopel around the world claim a parking spot and transform it into a small park as part of the international " Park(ing) Day ," which raises awareness about the need for more friendly public space, particularly green space. "Stone Soup Park" appeared in Jackson Heights, Queens. I was amazed by how the children of the neighborhood seemed to immediately embrace the makeshift park. A photo essay from my morning observing the Photo Booth is here . - Hrag Vartanian
