A Portrait of Cannes: Part Two

A Portrait of Cannes: Part Two

At a press roundtable, Samira Makhmalbaf, whose film Five O'Clock in the Afternoon is in competition, contrasts being at the Cannes Film Festival with harsh conditions in Afghanistan while she was shooting her film. Makhmalbaf's segment is book-ended with location shots outside the Palais des Festivals, les Marches Bleues and swimming choreography at a late-night party in the mountains. Makhmalbaf, the daughter of director Mohsen Makhmalbaf showed her two earlier films "The Apple" and "Blackboards" at Cannes, and is the youngest director to have shown in competition.
