A Joke Every Day - 352 - A Secular Holiday

True story. Honestly, I don't care. I mean I find all the spending and decor a little gross but that's for mostly aesthetic reasons (I prefer home-made gifts or a life of asceticism if you please). Anyway, we have different aesthetics, that's cool, I don't care. But you can't be the majority group and just decide that your way is everyone's way. That's pretty much despicable to me. I'm sure I'm guilty of it in other ways, certainly it feels impossible to blend all parts of a multicultural society in correct amounts and it's hard to know how best to accommodate the different groups, but this just seems like the most obvious example. Why not also tell Native Americans that thanksgiving is thanksgiving for them too? Not a perfect analogy of course since our genocides bear different causal relationships to the event and theirs was, relatively speaking, much more devastating to their population, but I think the point still stands. Don't tell me that Christmas is for me, I didn't ask for it, I'm not taking it. Don't tell me that mother's day is for me either. I won't take Father's day... that I know of!! OH SNAP! To simulate this for Christians, imagine a Scientologist telling you that Criminon Day is for everyone. HAPPY JANUARY 25th!! Christians: Please don't steal my jokes. They may be secular and sharable to you, but to me they're holy.
