A day in 'worst tune' hell

As record attempts go this has to be one of the worst - one guy in the States has spent 24 hours listening to Jefferson Starship's eighties pop rock tune We Built This City. The 1985 record has recently been voted worst song ever by Blender magazine in the US. And the poll gave editorial bosses the idea to try and set an "awesomely stupid record".Step forward the brave Russ Heller who volunteered to be locked in a perspex box with the tune blaring out until his full 24 hours were up.Editor Jonah Weiner said: "It's kind of a classic bar room argument - what's the worst song of all time."We decided it was We Built This City by Jefferson Starship. A truly horrible song for many many reasons."Recently we decided we were going to run a feature on crazy rock world records and we decided to set one of our own, hence this guy over here subjected to the most miserable 24 hours of his life."And Heller, perhaps proving the challenge was more damaging than he first realised, said of We Built This City: "You know, a city is a terrible thing to be built on rock and roll."You want a foundation of bedrock and some cement, you don't want to build it on music."The Guinness Book of records were invited to this special record breaking event, but they chose to pass. Perhaps they don't like the song either.
