A Breast Cancer Survivor's Story: Judy Dean

Fighting cancer isn’t just something that I write about. It’s something that’s dear to my heart. Prostate cancer robbed my family of my grandfather. Hodgkin’s lymphoma took my brother-in-law away from us. My mother is a breast cancer survivor--one of the two and a half million survivors across the country. She’s been cancer free now for nearly ten years, but I’ll never forget the day she told me. I’ll never forget cleaning her wounds from surgery. I’ll never forget the part of her body that will never be the same again because of the surgery and radiation. I’ll never forget the wonderful people we met along the way, patients and doctors. So I am sharing her story and the stories of those just like her. They are courageous, strong, and inspirational women who touched my life. Here’s to them, to you, and to the hundreds of thousands of women who will be diagnosed this year and the tens of thousands who will fight the battle, but won’t make it. Today, we hear Judy’s story as only she could tell it.
