50s TV Show on Hawaii Statehood, Economy, Politics & History

This episode of “Chronoscope” with Frank Knight featured Joseph R. Farrington, U.S. Delegate from Hawaii. Farrington comes to the show promoting booming businesses and vast growth in Hawaii. Military spending is still the largest source of income for the islands. The next three biggest industries are sugar cane, pineapples, and tourism. Hawaii has undergone a power struggle within its borders. There is currently a large push for statehood within Hawaii. There is opposition about this from southern state senators who would like to keep traditional ideas in the congress and keep left-wing Hawaii out of congress. The people of Hawaii love both Hawaii and the United States as a whole. They are a unique people in that there are many races united under the same flag.
