
Feb. 3: Fifty years ago, the pop stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson all died when their small plane crashed after a concert on a snowy night in Clear Lake, Iowa. The tragedy was immortalized in the 1971 Don McLean song "American Pie" as "the day the music died." NBC's Brian Williams reports. (Nightly News)
