From Xinhua News Agency: STORY: 37 ARRESTED AFTER GUINEA ATTACK DATELINE: July 21, 2011 LENGTH: 0:00:44 LOCATION: Nairobi VO At least 37 people have been arrested in Guinea after a pre-dawn attack on the presidential residence. Security has been tightened in the capital Conakry after Tuesday's attack, which killed one security personnel. President Alpha Conde survived the assault. The military said on Wednesday that all the detainees were soldiers, including Guinea's former army chief Nouhou Thiam. Analysts say this means Tuesday's attack could be a coup attempt, which has overshadowed the mineral-rich West African country since its independence from France in 1958. The 73-year-old Conde was elected in November last year. He's now under mounting pressure to organize a parliamentary vote, as the country's constitution stipulates a legislative election must be held six months after the presidential vote.
