£27m for lost trousers
A US judge is taking his cleaners to the cleaners to the tune of £27 million.Roy L Pearson is suing his dry cleaners for a pair of his trousers that went missing two years ago.He was originally demanding £33.5 million from Custom Cleaners but reduced the claim last week.Pearson, who is representing himself, is basing his claim on signs displayed in the shop which stated "Satisfaction Guaranteed" and "Same Day Service".But Chris Manning, attorney for Custom Cleaners' owners Jim Nam Chung, Soo Chung and Ki Chung, said no one would interpret the signs as an unconditional promise of satisfaction.He said: "They have no doubt that they misplaced the pants for a very short period of time and would be willing to refund him the $10.50 he paid for them to be altered."He added: "But by no means is the damages in this case bordering on anything like $67million."This is a case that was originally about one pair of pants and now it's about two signs in my client's store.
