From Xinhua News Agency: (0608 CR M09)23 TAIWAN SYRUPS BANNED IN HK DATELINE: June 08, 2011 LENGTH: 00:00:56 VO As the food safety scandal is escalating, Hong Kong government toughened its supervision on food imports from Taiwan. The Center for Food Safety in Hong Kong has called on the food trade to immediately stop the use and sale of 23 kinds of Taiwan fruit syrup and juice. It says the products may have been contaminated with plasticizer. The center said on Tuesday that it has suspended sale and initiated recall of the products from 12 importers of such items. It also said that it will continue to trace the other importer of the rest 11 kinds of fruit syrup and juice to take follow-up actions accordingly. However, the city's health chief York Chow Tuesday ruled out the possibility of a total ban on Taiwan food imports. He said it's not appropriate to advise people not to eat food from there. But he assured that food contaminated by plasticizers has been banned from sale. Powered by www.newslook.com
