
Hanson finds himself helpless to respond when he and his girlfriend Amy find themselves in the midst of a convenience store robbery that concludes in Amy's death. Unable to put this tragic experience behind him, Hanson's severely distraught and anti-social behavior causes Fuller, Penhall and Hoffs to become increasingly alarmed.Although Fuller takes Hanson's gun away until he feels Hanson is mentally ready to resume his post, Hanson continues to search for clues leading him to Amy's killer. While staking out Angelo, who has been since nick-named the convenience store killer because of a rash of subsequent killings, Hanson is gunned down by his prey and hospitalized.Fuller, fueled with anger and contempt with "the system" and provoked by Hanson's shooting, starts out on a mission to capture Angelo. Captain Briody, disapproving of Fuller's tactics and intentions to avenge Hanson, soon thwarts Fuller's plans. However, when Angelo strikes again, Briody calls for Fuller's assistance and Fuller is forced to gun down Angelo in a live-or-die situation.
