2012 Transit of Venus: Expedition and Time Lapse

From the 10,000-foot summit of Haleakala in Hawaii, a Williams College expedition recorded the transit of Venus June 5, 2012. Their goal was to image the atmosphere of Venus as it was backlit by the sun and gather data that may help identify other planets orbiting other stars. The videographers captured more than 119,000 frames at a cadence of one second, using a Celestron C6 and Nikon D800. Astronomer Jay Pasachoff led the expedition, with funding from National Geographic.
