2009 Session Video Log 2/06/09

The third of Delegate Reznik's video log reports from Annapolis in the 2009 Session. The Delegate talks about major issues in Annapolis including the introduction of HB 476 the Election Day Registration Constitutional Amendment, a local bill, Heart Disease Awareness day and a helpful link. Captioning: Welcome back to my 3rd weekly VLOG! It has been another exciting week here at the legislature so lets get started. Earlier this week, one of my bills HB 476 was introduced in the House. This bill will change the State Constitution to allow the General Assembly to implement Election Day Registration or EDR in our State. EDR would allow individuals to register to vote on Election Day with proper proof of residency and then cast a vote. This law has passed in 8 other states and increases voter turnout, especially among young people and minorities. I believe there is no good excuse to deny a citizen the right to vote merely because they missed the registration deadline. Voting is one of the greatest freedoms and privileges we have in this country and we should make sure that this right is available to all who are legally allowed to vote. After this mornings meeting of the Montgomery County Delegation meeting, I am excited to announce that one of my local bills has passed. I introduced this bill which creates the presumption that if an employee of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Committee who works in an outdoor wooded environment contracts Lyme Disease, MNCPPC would cover this employees workmans comp upon contraction of the disease. I am pleased to see that the bill passed through our delegation quickly, and hope it will pass through the other committees equally as fast. Now for this weeks constituent concern: I have received constituent emails this week reminding me about that today is Maryland Wear Red Day. Members of the General Assembly and around the State are wearing red to raise awareness about Heart Disease. Heart Disease is the number one killer in Maryland and I felt there was no better way to advertise than on this weekly video. If you have a family history of heart disease or are concerned that you may be in danger due to your health, please speak to your doctor. Finally I would like to highlight the link of the week. This week, the link is actually on my website Reznikformaryland.com. On the site, I have added a new tab called helpful links. This page is where you will find information about foreclosure help, general assistance, energy, and health insurance. That about wraps it up! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to watch this video, and Im looking forward to connecting with you again in the future and feel free to contact our office with any constituent concerns.
