Madagascar 2 by DreamWorks

------------------------------------ DreamWorks Animation SKG Chief executive Jeffrey Katzenberg gave a sneak peak on Wednesday (August 13) of "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," and said that the studio is also in talks to make a sequel to box office hit "Kung Fu Panda." Set for a U.S. release on November 7, the follow-up to 2005's "Madagascar" continues the story of a group of animals on the loose from New York's Central Zoo. Katzenberg has high hopes for the sequel, considering the original raked in $530 million in global ticket sales. "It's been phenomenal and actually I think most people think of "Shrek" as our biggest and most successful franchise, and I guess in total, at least until "Madagascar 2" comes along, it has been. But "Madagascar," as an original movie, has actually been our biggest film until only a few weeks ago when "Kung Fu Panda" took the crown," said Katzenberg. "Panda" surpassed "Madagascar" with sales numbers passing $560 million at the box office. So, it's no surprise that the studio has sequel on its mind. Katzenberg said that an official announcement could come within the next two months. Despite it's successes, rumors have been swirling that both DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation have been in financial talks with Reliance, an Indian entertainment conglomerate, as a possible alternative should it decide to sever ties with Paramount Pictures. Katzenberg, however, said for the time being, his company is staying put. "For DreamWorks Animation, we are in great shape, happily ensconced in our distribution relation with Paramount. It's been outstanding, we just had our greatest success with "Kung Fu Panda" so no changes for us. " Both the "Madagascar" and "Panda" sequels will likely come as good news to DreamWorks Animation investors who saw shares in the studio slump in late July after the company warned of higher international marketing costs. The news, of course, will also likely be heralded by the studio's legions of young fans whose yearn for lovable, talking animals have kept DreamWorks steadily afloat.
