1998 Dateline NBC: Children of the Harvest

In this report, Dateline NBC went to the Rio Grande Valley, in South Texas to follow two migrant families on their journey north for the harvest. Eleven-year-old James Flores and his family loaded up their van and headed for Ohio to pick cucumbers while the Villanueva’s headed to Michigan for a summer picking blueberries. The report was produced by Victor Arango and Andy Court and reported by Dennis Murphy, the show found that at the end of the 20th century, our American bounty was put on our tables by children as young as six. Dennis Murphy and Rayner Ramirez who was a field producer for this story catch up with some of the children from this report in their update “Children of the Harvest”.
