12/13/08 Human Rights Conference
December 10th is the sixtieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights where the United Nations codied our fundamental rights. There is listed a human right to healthcare which the Vermont Workers' Center has been promoting in its Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign. The conference on December 13th at the Davis Center (UVM) will be broader than that, encompassing all the human rights that local groups wish to highlight, collaborating with other local nonprofits. On this episode, the VWC talks with a University of Vermont Professor of Education, David Shiman, and Maddy Murphy-Hall, a member of the Student Labor Action Project (SLAP) at Uvm, and a VWC volunteer/intern about the upcoming conference and human rights in general.
