Here is a list of risk factors for depression as noted in a speech given by Joan Mathews Larson, PhD in September 2007. This list was taken from the book The list is taken from the book Essential Fatty Acids and Immunity in Mental Health by Charles Bates, PhD (1987, 1990). Depression among close relatives. A family history of suicide, schizophrenia, or other mental illness. Alcoholics or fanatic teetotalers in family tree. Any religious fanaticism in family. A personal or family history of Crohns, cirrhosis, cystic fibrosis, Sjogren-Larsen syndrome, eczema, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, PMS, scleroderma, diabetes, or benign breast disease. Ancestry that is 1/4 or more Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Scandinavian or Native American Indian. Almost all people with this ancestry benefit tremendously from taking Evening Primrose Oil. Warning: Do not give Evening Primrose Oil (omega-6 fatty acids) to Schizophrenics. It will make them worse. Give Schizophrenics omega-3 fatty acids instead. This was noted by Joan Mathews Larson, PhD in a speech she gave in September 2007.
