The country's meteorologic authority has issued a yellow alert for the storm, the second-lowest alert in the country's four-level storm alert system. PKG Nock-Ten, the eighth and the most powerful storm to hit China so far this year, is approaching at a speed of 20 km per hour. It's expected to make landfall over the coastal regions of western Guangdong and eastern Hainan Province. As of 5p.m. Thursday, the center of the storm was 440 kilometers southeast off Hainan's Wenchang City, packing strong winds. Local authorities are now on high alert, as the storm is likely to gain power and strengthened into a typhoon.
