Millions of people are affected. Thunderstorms have been battering southwest Chongqing Municipality since July 21st, affecting a population of some 270,000. It damaged homes and farmland, cutting power supplies. Local authorities say more than 1,500 houses have been damaged by the continuous storms and another 400 have collapsed. More than 6,800 hectares of farmland have also been affected. In northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a bridge was destroyed by rain-triggered floods on a railway. About 3,800 passengers aboard five trains were stranded. As of the midday Tuesday, most of the stranded passengers have been transferred by other vehicles to their destinations or train stations nearby.
