From Xinhua News Agency: (0629 CR M15)ECFA BRINGS TARIFF CUTS DATELINE: June 29, 2011 LENGTH: 00:01:18 VO A government spokesman from Chinese mainland said on Wednesday that Taiwan enjoyed tariff cuts of about 43 million U.S. dollars in the first five months of this year. And the cuts are a result of the implementation of Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, or ECFA, between the cross-strait sides since January. From January to May, the total export value from Taiwan to the mainland reached 1.56 billion dollars. Under the ECFA's quote "early harvest" plan, the Chinese mainland reduces tariffs on 539 categories of Taiwanese goods while Taiwan drops duties on 267 mainland goods. By 2012, the duty exemption will extend to hundreds of categories. The plan also enabled more than 40 companies and five financial firms from Taiwan to enter the mainland market.
