Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie held a meeting with visiting commander-in-chief of the Chilean navy Edmundo Gonzalez Thursday in Beijing. Liang said developing the relations between the two militaries conforms to the basic interests of China and Chile. He says the two sides have established channels for communication with frequent high-level visits, while broadening areas for professional communication and increasing the frequency of personnel training. Gonzales says he is glad that the Chilean navy maintains good relations with its Chinese counterpart.
