(0602 CR M09)SCRAMBLE TO SAVE TRAPPED MINERS

From Xinhua News Agency: (0602 CR M09)SCRAMBLE TO SAVE TRAPPED MINERS DATELINE: June 2, 2011 LENGTH: 00:01:03 VO Two miners have been confirmed dead and 18 more are missing in two flooded coal mines in southwest China. The first accident happened early on Sunday in Guiyang city, capital of southeastern Guizhou Province. Thirteen miners were working underground. One of them managed to escape, while the others were trapped. As of Thursday, two miners had been confirmed dead while ten others remained trapped for more than four days as the high density of gas hampered rescue efforts. Investigations showed the accident occurred as miners did not work in accordance with approved designs, officials claimed. In another flooded coal mine at the border of Dushan County in Guizhou, and Nandan County in southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, eight workers have been trapped for almost two days. Local officials say the rescue operation was also complicated by the high density of gas and narrow shafts. Poli Powered by www.newslook.com
