It is slightly more than usual. The Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters forecast that the first typhoon this year is expected to make landfall earlier than usual. It warned its damage could also be heavier as than in the past as well. Local departments have been urged to improve the accuracy and timeliness of meteorological forecasts and step up monitoring of hazards in regions that are likely to see mountain floods, mud flows, and landslides. Last October, one of the strongest typhoons of the year, named Megi, hit China's south coastal area, bringing strong storms and torrential rain.
