World's Leading Authors Gather In Jerusalem to Discuss Life, Literature and Israel

The International Writers festival opened amid excitement and controversy this Sunday in Jerusalem, as highly respected authors from around the world gathered to talk about life, literature and Israel. Over 60 Israeli writers including Amoz Oz , David Grossman and Cilla Elazar, joined foreign authors such as South African author Nadine Gordimer; Jewish American writers Anita Diamant, Jonathan Safran Foer, Nicole Krauss, Nathan Englander and authors from Italy, France, Agentina, Portugal, Albania and other countries, for the event. In an intimate discussion in front of the ancient walls of Jerusalem, South African Noble Prize Laurete Nadine Gordimer, sat down with Israeli author Amoz Oz and 350 audience members to discuss the many issues surrounding the event. The impressive five day festival was not only an opportunity for people around the world to gather in Jerusalem to discuss life and literature, it was also an important step forward in Israel's cultural standing throughout the world.
