With Syrian Help Palestinians Present Largest Flag In The World - A Cultural War Against Israel

A plot of 27,000 square meters in Damascus Syria presents what is described as the largest flag of Palestine in the world. Every square meter represents a square kilometer in the Palestinian ruled areas. Organizers hope to enter the Guiness Book of records with the flag, work started on it as Palestinians celebrated the Nakba or uprising, and they intend to compete against Israel's flag which also claimed to be the largest in the world. The project is not affiliated with any armed factions, the idea was initiated over the internet by young Palestinians who live int he West Bank and Gaza as well as overseas. Organizers say the aim is not only to draw world attention to Palestinian suffering but to emphasize the Palestinians right of return to the occupied areas. Costs mounted in the region of $20,000 which were raised through donations given by Syrians and Palestinians.. At a time when efforts are underway to instill calm, Palestinians have reached a higher level turnign the violent conflict into a cultural war against Israel.05/25/08
