Will the Dems Get Away with the Stimulus Porkage?
The $787 trillion dollar stimulus bill pushed by Speaker Pelosi and passed overwhelmingly by the House has more pork spending than any bill in history! In fact, the bill (H.R.1) contains so much pork spending that Speaker Pelosi included $227 million simply for oversight of the pork barrel projects included in her stimulus bill. It would appear his promises of "sunshine" and "transparency" were short-lived as well! The following is still posted prominently on Obama's campaign website: "Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days." The House and the Senate passed the "porkulus" bill on the evening of the 13th. This monstrosity of a bill grew from about 600 pages to 1100 pages during secretive sessions which excluded Republican conferees and the floor votes took place with 24 hours of the release of the full 1100 page text. The public obviously did not have the time to see it! No Member of the House and Senate had the time to read it before voting on it! And as of Sunday, February 16, the bill is still NOT posted on the White House website. Links to the "Conference Report" were posted (which, by the way did not work when we attempted to click on them) and the "Joint Explanatory Statement" appear, but no bill. So much for transparency and sunshine! Ultra liberals in Congress are continuing to pull strings behind the scenes to give billions of dollars in taxpayer money to ACORN. They are working overtime to shove through billions and billions of dollars in wasteful spending to long term liberal special interest projects. They are doing this all under the continued guise of the stimulus package. The price tag is still astonishing. $787 billion might be less than the Senates $838 billion, but its massively more than the $300 billion this bill originally was proposed at, and still tops a trillion dollars when interest is included. There's still $50 million for the Endowment Arts, $600 million buy cars government workers, $88 million for ATV and bike trails and so much more waste. And, go to www.StimulusWatch.org to see the wish list of earmarks for cities and counties in your area. It will blow your mind. Yet the liberal Democrats in Congress are trying to ram through this close to trillion-dollar spending bill anyway. On January 11, Speaker Pelosi publicly pledged "no pork" when being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer. She promptly broke that pledge when it was convenient to do so.
